I have had a great start to 2011, as I have already finished two new works! The first is The Scarf which finally has its yellow background. My next image is called The Zebra Rider which features an acrobat/vaulter doing tricks on a zebra. I am proud of myself because I am learning to draw the human body from my own imagination rather than having to rely on photographs to show me how the body looks in certain positions. I've never taken a figure drawing class so it has always been a bit of a challenge for me! I sketched both The Scarf and The Zebra Rider without looking at anything, and I am glad that the people are at least somewhat proportional.
Unfortunately for me though, I should have looked at a picture of a zebra while sketching because it's legs are all wrong. I am always forgetting that horses back legs bend backwards, and my paper zebra has legs that bend forward. I guess now I'll know for next time, and I can consider this zebra my "artistic interpretation" of the animal. I have a lot more ideas for new works, and working quickly is quite an advantage when trying to get a lot of ideas out at once. Be sure to check back to see what is coming next!
